Tiruchendur: ₹19 Crore Sea Wall Project to Prevent Erosion Near Murugan Temple Intensified

📍 Location: Tiruchendur, Thoothukudi District

📅 Event: Kandha Sashti Festival from October 22

     The famous Tiruchendur Murugan Temple, one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan, is witnessing large-scale sea wall construction work worth ₹19 crore to prevent sea erosion along its coastal area.

The Thoothukudi District Administration and Water Resources Department are jointly implementing the project. Due to strong sea waves, soil erosion and sea ingress have been occurring near the temple’s coast over the years. To protect the sacred site, a strong sea wall is being constructed.

Officials have confirmed that the work is in its final stages and will be completed before the Kandha Sashti festival begins on October 22.

Alongside, related infrastructure like roads, drainage systems, and lighting facilities are also being improved for the convenience of devotees.

Officials said:

      “The main goal is to protect the Tiruchendur temple area from the sea’s impact. ₹19 crore has been allocated for this project, and all works will be completed before the festival to ensure smooth arrangements for devotees.”

Once completed, this sea wall project is expected to provide long-term protection for the temple and surrounding areas.
